Shanghai's Lujiazui Financial City hosted a forum on green finance and investment on May 15 with the aim of advancing its green finance sector.
Green finance aims to make financial activities more environmentally friendly, reduce pollution, greenhouse gas emission, and improve energy efficiency.
Ian Simm, CEO of Impax Asset Management, and Li Jing, director of green finance of Ernst & Young Greater China were invited to give keynote speeches on green finance at the event.
Impax Asset Management was chosen given its specialist focus on green asset management. The UK-based company was founded in 1998 and its businesses cover green infrastructure private equity investment, sustainable property investment, and green company portfolio investment.
The half-day event forms part of a wider series activity titled "Emerging Opportunities in UK-China Cross-Border Investment" that has been jointly launched by Lujiazui Financial City and UK's Department of International Trade.
Lujiazui serves as a pilot ground for Chinese financial institutions expanding business overseas. London is seen as a world leading international financial center with rich experience in international asset allocation and it is hoped further cooperation with the city will improve Lujiazui's innovation capacity in the financial industry.
